Exciting news: We are Unveiling Winners of the first HackTheBusiness Competition held in Rimini

The HackTheBusiness competition held from 15th to 17th of June in Rimini (Italy), was the first of three events organised by the ENTREPRENEDU team for emerging talents to showcase their groundbreaking ideas. And so they did!

We were at We Make Future

We Make Future, held in the city of Rimini, has become synonymous with innovation, technology, and entrepreneurial spirit. This prestigious event attracts forward-thinking individuals from various industries, offering a unique opportunity to explore emerging trends, network with industry experts, and gain invaluable insights. And at the heart of We Make Future, ENTREPRENEDU team organised the HackTheBusiness competition, a thrilling showcase of entrepreneurial prowess and innovative ideas.

Unveiling HackTheBusiness concept

HackTheBusiness is an entrepreneurship challenge for young minds to learn, explore and discover the secrets of DeepTech industry! The competition encourages participants to think outside the box, refine their pitches, and leverage their creativity. HackTheBusiness event was (and still is) the perfect opportunity for young individuals and startups to present their business concepts to a panel of esteemed judges and industry leaders and get invited to the ENTREPRENEDU Coaching and Mentoring programme, where they will get all the support needed to level-up their business idea!

The Experience

On the day one of the competition, our participants were presented with a challenge: Pitch the innovative problem-solving idea related SpaceTech, ClimateTech or FoodTech! Afterwards, our participants had 72h to work on their ideas with the possibility to ask support from ENTREPRENEDU mentors. In this way, HackTheBusiness goes beyond a mere competition as it serves as a opportunity for learning and growth. All participants received valuable feedback from the panel of judges and mentors, who offer constructive insights aimed at refining their ideas and strategies. Moreover, contestants gain access to a network of mentors and industry experts, who provide guidance and support, helping them navigate the challenging entrepreneurial journey.

Our participants worked very hard on their pitches to captivate the audience and judges within a limited time frame. The pressure was strong as each contestant strived to convey their vision, value proposition, and market potential concisely and persuasively. The pitches were evaluated based on several criteria, including innovation, feasibility, market scalability, and social impact.

Italy is set to host an exciting and innovative event that aims to revolutionise the deeptech business landscape in the food, climate, and space sectors. HackTheBusiness, organised by ENTREPRENEDU, is a series of three hackathons designed to nurture entrepreneurial ecosystems for education and drive the creation of successful startups. This unique initiative is funded under the Horizon Europe program and brings together innovation stakeholders and educational entities from six different European countries, including Italy, Bulgaria, Greece, Belgium, Germany, and Ireland.

The primary objective of ENTREPRENEDU is to foster the growth of aspiring entrepreneurs and facilitate the development of new technological solutions. With HackTheBusiness – Italy, the organization aims to create an entrepreneurship challenge that allows young minds to learn, explore, and unlock the secrets of deeptech business in key sectors: food, climate, and space.

The HackTheBusiness competition in Italy is open to 30 teams comprising students, new startups, and researchers who are eager to acquire entrepreneurial skills and explore their potential. Scheduled to take place at We Make Future 2023 from 15th to 17th June, this event promises to be an exhilarating experience for participants.

These courses will equip the top four ranked teams with the knowledge and skills necessary to transform their innovative ideas into successful businesses, particularly within the high-tech sectors.

Eleonora Lombardi, the ENTREPRENEDU Project Coordinator, expressed her confidence in the potential impact of  HackTheBusiness, stating, “We are confident that HackTheBusiness can be an opportunity to bring innovative ideas to life in the deeptech sector and that it represents the first step towards training a new generation of successful young entrepreneurs.”

Exciting news: ENTREPRENEDU project kicks off in Rome

ENTREPRENEDU is the initiative funded by the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA) with an aim of enhancing entrepreneurial ecosystems for education. After long anticipation, our dream team held its kick-off meeting on the 30-31st of January and 1st of February 2023 in the Italian Space Agency, in Rome (Italy).

The ENTREPRENEDU kick off meeting was successfully organised by our Project Coordinator – Fondazione E. Amaldi, and brought together different innovation stakeholders and educational entities from 6 different European countries:

ENTREPRENEDU team aims at enhancing the proliferation of new business models and entrepreneurial skills, directly involving 90 teams of youth (age 18 to 30 years old), in 3 different Hackathons. The ENTREPRENEDU initiative will support the 12 most viable and promising ideas and concepts from the early stages to the commercialization of their solutions.

In that way, ENTREPRENEDU will enable a highly replicable model to provide business know-how for young Europeans, which will be validated in 3 educational institutions in Italy, Greece and Bulgaria, as well as a Venture Building Program (educational model) to be validated in 2 Universities and 1 VET (Vocational Education and Training) entity on 90 students.

The ENTREPRENEDU unique and interdisciplinary methodology will enhance entrepreneurial know-how and business skills and activities in less and moderate developed innovation regions, thus reinforcing their acceleration capacity and enabling youth to scale their concept to fully concrete solutions with strong market potential, subsequently enhancing the development and competitiveness of these regions.
